Where will you be when you get where you’re going? In other words, where will your dreams take you? Perhaps you’re like the hopelessly lost salesman who stopped at a general store in an old country town and asked for directions home. The store owner winked at his friends and very convincingly replied, “You can’t get there from here.” Is that the way you feel about your goals and dreams? Do you say to yourself, “I can’t get there from here?” If you do, you’re probably right. Here are three keys that will help you reach your dreams.
First, don’t be afraid to dream. Decide what you want. Research has shown that dreaming while you are asleep is critical important to your emotional stability. Dreaming while you’re awake is just as important if you expect to reach your potential. Second, identify the obstacle that stands between you and your goals and develop a plan to overcome it. Third, don’t be afraid to fail. Everyone encounters failure. It’s how you deal with setbacks and disappointments that separates productive, fulfilled individuals from the also-rans.
“Success,” says supersalesman and hair-care tycoon Comer Cottrell, “is the ability to hitch your wagon to a star while keeping your feet on the ground.” Happy is the person who dreams big and is willing to take the steps to make them come true. Don’t be afraid to start climbing.
